End of Life Dilemmas

Here is the recording of the session from July 15 on end-of-life dilemmas.  The first part is my introduction and then some concepts in Jewish law and ethics.  In the second part, I talk about some applications and then Dr. Stephanie Wolf-Rosenblum shares her perspective and we respond to questions.  Stephanie is Chief Medical Officer at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua.  In the second part at some point you may have to turn your volume up but all is audible.  You can listen to these streaming, or download them (each is more than 20MB).

Overview of the Israel-Palestinian Conflict
This is a 40-minute talk in two sections.  It is an overview of the territorial dimension of the conflict, going back to the beginning of modern Zionism and through the wars and peace negotiations.  I gave this talk at the Huntington in Nashua on August 4, 2010 and there are some questions and answers at the end.  The talk makes reference to a series of maps, which you can view or download.

Jews in the 21st Century

Talk to Southern New Hampshire Jewish Men’s Club, 9/14/08

I gave a talk about trends and the future of Jews in our new century.  It’s Jewish sociology, not Jewish text or thought.  It’s broken into two parts since the files are large.  Part 1 frames the question and looks back 100 and 50 years, and starts to analyze what’s different today.  Part 2 looks forward more.

A Jewish Dialogue with Michael Sandel’s “Justice”
LimmudBoston, October 21, 2010

This podcast is geared to those who are interested in political theory.  The workshop looked at Jewish texts that overlap in some ways the philosophers in Michael Sandel’s recent book Justice, which is itself based on a course that he teaches at Harvard and which was made into a PBS series as well (you can see his teaching at justiceharvard.org and many of his readings as well).  There is a source sheet that accompanies this session.  Where there is back and forth between me and the group some of the participants may sound muted but it’s actually not too bad.  The two parts together are about 50 minutes long.
